Meet Happily Whole
Hey babes! Ashley & Sarah here. We have been loving collaborating on Happily Whole and giving all of you a glimpse into our lives. We have gotten some new followers recently so we thought it'd be fun for you to get to know us a little better!
10 things about Ashley:
I'm an only child.
I dance every second I can get.
I am ridiculously double jointed in both my arms which can make doing workouts like yoga and push-ups challenging.
I love baking and have a serious sweet tooth.
I always wanted to be a writer (Fashion Editor for Elle or Cosmo was my dream job) but my dad refused to send me to college for a job he didn't think I needed a degree for. So being able to write this blog makes me so happy and fulfilled.
I almost died 10 years ago - long story short I was dealing with stomach issues for 2 years that ended up being my appendix. While I was in my sophomore year of college, I had emergency surgery while it was bursting and was then hospitalized for 4 days for a nasty infection. That is the only time I have ever been hospitalized.
I'm super handy and can figure out most things on my own. Our hot water heater likes to kick off when we get storms or if we have power surges, the first time it happened I googled how to fix it and did it myself. I can lay wood flooring like a boss and helped my dad with most of the work in our condo.
I love being by the water. Something about how small either the ocean or a lake makes you feel helps to put the world into perspective for me. Andy and I recently started Stand Up Paddle Boarding. I love how connected and centered it makes me feel.
I love the stars and the science behind them, both astrology and astronomy. For our 11 year anniversary Andy bought me a telescope so we can go star gazing together -- as soon as we take it out of the box and assemble it that is.
Interior decorating and styling is my jam!! I loved renovating our condo when we first purchased it and I just went on a huge redecorating binge this weekend because I was already bored with some stuff.
10 things about Sarah:
I love being creative. Give me arts & crafts all day and I'm a happy girl.
I am a reality TV junkie. Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor/ette, you name it! I love it all.
My life wasn't always healthy and fit- my journey started about 5 years ago!
Cleaning and baking actually calm me down. Sometimes, I'll get into a baking groove- can't stop, won't stop! My mom always said she would know when something was wrong because I couldn't stop baking.
I was in a sorority in college; proud Chi Omega sister here!
I take car singing very seriously. Full on music video happening every time I drive.
My spirit animal is a corgi- they have short legs and a big booty just like me!
I am a die hard Yankees fan and Derek Jeter has always been (and always will be) my favorite.
Starbucks > Dunkin'.
I can touch my tongue to my nose!
We asked YOU, our readers, what you wanted to know about us!
Here are the top questions:
What are your favorite books?
A: I am 100% a hopeless romantic. Chick flicks, love songs, and anything with a romantic undertone is my jam. SOO my favorite books tend to fall into that category. My go to romance author is Nicholas Sparks. I have been reading his novels since Junior High and I own a hard copy of almost every book he has ever written. My absolute favorite book of his is Message in A Bottle. I’ve read it several times and cried at the end every time. My other absolute Favorite book of all time is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I remember the first time I read it and how much of an impact its last lines had on me at the time - "So we beat on, boats against the current borne back ceaselessly into the past."
S: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and just for fun- A Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon (this is a children's book but always my favorite!)
A: This one is SOO hard for me because my taste in music varies. I love all different genres of music, so it honestly depends on my mood. I love anything from John Mayer, Maroon 5, Cold Play and Jack Johnson to Bob Marley and Of A Revolution then over to Drake, Jay-z, Beyonce, Rhianna, and Kanye and back to bands like the Shins, Switchfoot, and the Lumineers oh and let’s sprinkle in country while we're at it -- a little bit of Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Blake Shelton, Little Big Town and Luke Bryan never hurt. SO when I say I’m all over the place – I meant it. But my go to for most things is Late 90’s/ Early 2000’s music, probably because that when I was really growing up and coming into my own. I have so many memories attached to so much of that time span but honestly you can NEVER go wrong with a little NSYNC, Brittney, Third Eye Blind, and Kanye before he was Yeezus.
S: I love any TIU playlist on Spotify, but it depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm at work, it'll most likely be a relaxing, calming playlist of softer music. If I'm driving in the car, give me today's top hits or a good throwback. I also made the "Ultimate Party Playlist" which is perfect for any girls weekend! I love all types of music!
What's in your bag (purse or gym bag)?
A: I try to keep my purse light, especially in the winter because my boyfriend is a serve asthmatic come the colder months and I end up holding on to all his stuff any time we go some where but there are staples I ALWAYS carry with me. Wallet, Checkbook, business cards, mirror, bobby pins and a hair tie, 2 chap sticks (in case I loose one, which I always do), 2 shades of lip stick (right now I have a matte nude and satin pink, a protein bar (TIU or Square Organics) for when I get hungry and my favorite trustee Ray-Bans.
S: What isn't in my purse! I call my bag the "Mary Poppins Bag" because I always have something you're looking for. Chap stick, hair ties, bobby pins, you name it- I've got it! I always have snacks and a water bottle because hangry Sarah is no fun. My gym bag ALWAYS has booty bands in it.
What was your first job?
A: I started working as soon as I was old enough to go get a worker’s permit. As soon as I turned 15 my dad took me down to the town hall and then we went straight to job hunting. My first ever “Job” which lasted one weekend before I moved on was at a regional Donut Shop working the drive-thru. AS much as I LOVE coffee, serving it just wasn’t for me. I went on to work at CVS Pharmacy for a year or so from there and stayed in retail until 5 years ago.
S: I got a job as soon as I was able to and I worked at a local Apple Barrel as a cashier. It was tough not having a car, but since I lived really close, sometimes I would walk if I couldn't get a ride.I loved it! I also had a job in retail and never again will I do that to myself! Retail is TOUGH! So props to any of you who are in retail.
A: I cannot stand RUDENESS. I think it so completely unwarranted and as human beings we all have a duty to be courteous and kind to one another. Also, people who don't know how to walk. #realtalk: There is a way to walk in the mall and stopping every few feet is not how you do it.
S: Slow walkers and online stores that charge for shipping. Oh, also when people spell my name without the 'H'. The correct and biblical spelling of my name is Sarah, plus, it's in my work signature and I will always sign my name on things.
What do you do for work? Why do you love it?
A: My parent’s own a small business and I have been working for them just over 5 years now. My official title is Secretary & Treasurer, but I literally do everything to run the front office. Human Resources, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Marketing, Web Development, and everything in between. I love it because I love being a boss babe and it is really flexible which is perfect for my life right now.
S: I am an Event Manager at a Convention Center. I love it because this has always been what I've wanted to do! It is super challenging but always keeps my on my toes. I may work 16-hour days over a long period of time, but getting that positive feedback from my clients is what makes everything worth it to me.
How do you stick to clean eating/working out when you're with family and they're hosting?
A: I bring EVERYTHING with me. I recently spent the 4th of July at my parents Lake House and brought everything I needed to stay on track -- All the LCG foods (fruit, yogurt, veggie burgers, salad, bar, and protein powder for smoothies), my yoga mat, booty bands and resistance band. Then I just tried to stay on a normal schedule. Even though I did sleep in a bit I made sure to get my work outs in when I got up and continue to eat all the clean foods I could. But do not get yourself down if you do not stay on track 100%. Treat Yo Self babe!! Being Happily Whole is all about balance.
S: I always bring my own food. Don't ever feel bad about doing this! If you want to keep up with your healthy lifestyle, just prepare for it! When I travel to my brother's house, I'll bring my own snacks and TIU approved foods to make sure I stay on track. I'm also a firm believer in treating yourself, so even if you do bring something that is approved but want that piece of cake- go for it! YOLO!
A: All things Mexican. I could literally eat a burrito every day for the rest of my life and be happy. Oh and the guac, did I mention the guac?!?
S: Sushi, guacamole and dark chocolate. Oh, and Peanut Butter, can't forget about that!
A: Europe. I would love to travel Europe. Andy’s family is from Scotland and they have relatives all over the UK so I am hoping to make this trip happen ASAP.
