How to Stay on Track when Life gets Busy
Life; it is filled with ups and downs, good days, bad days and all of the in-between. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade; right? What happens when life spins out of control and you don’t know what day of the week it is? Ever been there? I sure have, and I’m going to help you gain control back of things that are within your reach.
I’ve mentioned it before, but my profession is an Event Manager for a large building with over 140,000 square feet of event space, so I’m sure you can imagine what some of my events may look like. Yes, I do have small, one-day, 100-300 person events; but I also have large, week-long, 1,500 people events too. I actually prefer these events, not because of my long days, but because they keep me up and moving. There’s nothing quite like live events, and that’s what makes my job so exciting and different every day.
Recently, Ashley and I asked YOU, our followers, what you wanted to see on the blog. One of the responses was “how to stay on track when life gets busy.” I immediately told Ashley I wanted to write this post because it applied directly to my life. So babes, I’m here to tell you how I stay on track when my life gets busy, and hopefully this will help you when yours does as well.
A Sunday well spent brings a week of content. You know how people always say this about meal prepping? Well it’s 100% true. This is my NUMBER ONE tip when it comes to staying on track. I have had weeks where I will work 16-hour days, three days in a row. I know what you’re thinking. How? Why? Ladies, I am used to working days like this. I have worked in banquets and as a server since I was 17, working long days, weekends and holidays. This doesn’t faze me one bit. My point is that by planning and prepping your meals each week will help
keep your nutrition on point. I’m stressing this to you because living a healthy lifestyle is made up by 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. You can exercise all you want while eating whatever you want and not see results. If you feed your body with healthy and nutrient dense food, the results will come. How do I know this? I've lived it. When I first started my fitness journey, I only changed my diet and how I looked at food. By changing my nutrition alone, I lost 45 pounds. Without. Exercise.
For me, this step is crucial and helps me stay accountable in my fitness journey. Working where I do and being around food that is delicious but not that healthy for you can be a challenge. By packing the food I prepped, I know I will stay on track and stick to my meal plan.
Get that booty call in. I will ALWAYS try to get a workout in, even if I have an event at work. My normal routine consists of a 6:30 AM EST booty call in Studio Tone it Up. This can be a challenge if I have to be at work for 5:15 AM (yes, this has happened). I know a lot of you also struggle with finding time to workout. If I can’t get in a studio workout before or after work, I will try and find ways to
get moving at work. Most events I work I am constantly running around the building, racking up steps on my FitBit. If this is the case, I count this as getting my exercise since it is some form of cardio.
I always take the stairs when I’m at work to get that extra booty work. I have even worked out in my office before. The best part about the Studio Tone it Up App is that you can access your workouts wherever you are! I’m lucky enough to have my own office with a door that shuts, so there are times where an office workout will be what I do.
Staying active during a 9-5 job is important because it means you are getting your body moving. Most of us, and yes I'm guilty of it, stay seated at our desks all day. You can do the smallest things to change this. Grab a stability ball and use it as a chair for 30 minutes every few hours. Have a FitBit like me that alerts you at 10-of each hour? Listen to that buzzing watch on your wrist and get up and move! Take a walk on your lunch break. There are so many ways to get yourself moving during work, so now it's up to you to try it!
Drink up! I have a little post it note on my computer that says “HYDRATE” and is underlined three times. Since I do a lot of work on my computer, that note is always in my sight. Staying hydrated is SO important to staying successful. Some benefits of drinking water include:
Helps with weight loss & boosts metabolism
Gives your skin a “glow”
It can affect your mood for the better
Effects your energy level & brain function
It can prevent & treat headaches
I keep my Tone it Up water bottle with me at ALL times. Because it features a vacuum wall it keeps your liquids cold for 24 hours! This is so important for me because I LOVE cold water, so it makes it much more enjoyable and easier for me to drink it.
I also have the Plant Nanny app on my phone which is a water intake app. Basically, you pick a plant and you “water” it throughout the day. It calculates how much water you need to drink and the best part is it reminds me to drink by telling me that my plant is thirsty.
Following these three easy steps when life gets crazy helps me be successful and stay on track. What are some things that you always do to make sure you are successful? I want you to take one of the three points I talked about, and apply it to your life. Do it for a week and let me know if and how it has helped you stay on track.
As always, remember that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to. Life may get crazy and out of your control, but I want you to focus on what you can control rather than stressing on what you cannot.
