Do it for YOU, not the #gram
In today’s day and age, social media basically runs everyone’s lives. More than ever we are all so attached to our phones so we ultimately get a sense of nakedness when we don’t have it. With technology evolving every day, it’s hard to stray from the ever changing world around us. Personally, I take time on the weekends and detach myself from my phone. Yes, I’ll go on social media and browse for a bit, but I’m not permanently glued. I'll do this especially during times when I’m with friends and/or family. One of my goals for 2018 was to be more present and live in the moment, so that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.
Because I'm very active on social media, I’ve noticed there are a lot of people who get discouraged when they don’t get a lot of likes on a photo or from a certain person/people. I'm not going to lie to you, there are days where I'm that person too. But I’m here to tell you that Instagram is NOT about who gets the most likes or has the most followers. When I started becoming more active on Instagram, I realized that I could use it as diary to share this journey I’m on. I learned quickly that I could use it as an outlet to connect with so many incredible women, to help inspire them or be that motivation they might be looking for that day.
I want you to go read Ashley's post about finding your why right now. This is so important when it comes to not letting small things like Instagram likes ruin your day. Find why you started and why you chose to use Instagram as your platform. Figure out why you decided to post that day or what you are trying to convey through your page. If you solely use Instagram because you want the likes and followers, then I truly feel you will never be satisfied with the platform. If you use Instagram to feel motivation or a sense of community, to keep track of the progress you are making, or inspire others, your time spent will be more fulfilling and meaningful.
So now I want to challenge you to take a step back from your Instagram feed and ask yourself WHY you chose Instagram as your outlet and WHY you started in the first place. Keeping these things in the back of your mind will allow you to enjoy social media so much more and will also allow you to connect and impact other women around you.
Leave me a comment and let me know why you love using Instagram and how you can practice doing it for you instead of the gram.
